Dark Horse Becomes This Year’s Highest Charting Country Debut from a Solo Male So Far; “All On Me” Arrives Top 10
Touching Tribute to Fan Shared as First “Song On Me” Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (January 30, 2018) – Highly lauded singer-songwriter Devin Dawson, who enters the Top 10 on the singles chart this week with “All On Me,” made an impressive showing with the release of his debut album Dark Horse arriving Top 3 and Top 5 on Billboard’s Country Albums Sales and Country Albums charts respectively. This exciting start makes Dawson the highest charting new male country artist the same week Entertainment Weekly features him as the ONLY country artist on their “8 Artists Who Will Rule 2018” list.
Dawson has repeatedly stood out as the first or only artist to receive extraordinary critical accolades. In 2017, he was the only male recording artist in ELLE’s Fall Culture Preview and People’s “Ones to Watch” list, with the outlet also choosing Dark Horse as the only country album on this week’s “People Picks” list. He became thefirst artist to livestream a performance from Facebook’s L.A. studios and this year has already been highlighted as the sole country artist on Shazam’s “Next To Know” list.
The Huffington Post, AXS and Billboard Artist to Watch, who has been called “one of country music’s most tender and articulate wordsmiths…” by the Tennessean, co-wrote every track on Dark Horse and holds the craft near to his heart. Using that skill to further change lives, Dawson also offered a few lucky fans who pre-ordered the album a chance to receive a personalized song. The first “Song On Me” release made public this week is a heartfelt tribute to a sister who, after the loss of her brother, has been raising his son as her own. Dawson became one of the few artists to make their TODAY show debut in the 8AM and 10AM hours earlier this month after his first national TV performance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2017. Fans eager to hear what Rolling Stone calls “…a forward-thinking album that occupies the outermost orbits of country-pop…” can catch the Nor-Cal native in select cities now before joining Brett Eldredge in April for “The Long Way” Tour, with multiple dates having already sold out (full list below). About Devin Dawson
An atypical country artist, Devin Dawson’s approach to music is not different on purpose, it’s different with purpose. He grew up just outside the gates of Folsom Prison, drawing inspiration from Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Pulling from these influences, he began to write in a style that is definitively country. Dawson’s lyrics, full of romance and vulnerability and delivered with a distinctive saw-toothed vocal, draw you in from the first verse and keep you hooked until the very last chord. Since the release of his debut single “All On Me,” the California-native has performed on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers and TODAY, earning critical praise from a multitude of outlets including People, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Huffington Post, ELLE, Billboard, Stereogum, American Songwriter and more. His unique mix of organic roots and high-voltage country is showcased masterfully on his debut Dark Horse, produced by the daring Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Little Big Town, Brothers Osborne). With a co-write credit on every track, the result will further establish Dawson’s building reputation as a dark horse set to emerge as one of the most exciting modern storytellers the format has ever seen.
