Warner Music Nashville recording artist Redferrin has just released the brand-new track, “Tell ‘Em Why” today (LISTEN HERE). Produced by Corey Crowder and Jake Rose and co-written by Redferrin alongside Jake Rose and Michael Whitworth, “Tell ‘Em Why” continues to showcase the innovative new singer/songwriter’s unorthodox sound and take-it-or-leave-it style.
Born Blake Redferrin, the White House, Tennessee native has begun turning heads as one of Nashville’s most unique and innovative new artists. With more that 6.5 million global streams to date as a solo artist, he also boasts several successful cuts, including Florida Georgia Line’s hip-hop inspired “Countryside,” Nelly’s smash “Lil Bit,” and Dean Brody and The Reklaws' “I Can’t Help Myself,” which showcased a knack for party starting, hitting No. 1 in Canada and setting a record for the most one-week radio spins in the nation’s history. But Redferrin grew up obsessed with a different kind of track work.
Living just 30 miles north of Music City, he spent his first 24 years on the pegs of a dirt bike, chasing high-speed dreams with the throttle pinned and no kill switch. He earned a professional ride by the time he was 18 and joined the national Arenacross circuit. But crashes and injuries are a constant companion in racing and they eventually catch up with everyone, so he began exploring the idea of changing direction.
He had learned to play guitar as a teen when his father brought one home from his job at Nashville’s Gibson plant and had always used music to pump up for races or work through painful recoveries. In his mind, writing songs of his own was a natural progression. In addition, Redferrin had also struck up a friendship a few years earlier with another avid rider – FGL’s Tyler Hubbard. After Redferrin stopped racing, he signed a publishing deal with Hubbard and his FGL partner Brian Kelley’s Tree Vibez Music. And with those sonic trailblazers as mentors, Redferrin’s radically honest songwriting found traction.
Redferrin joins the new generation of country stars – a group with a deep love of the lifestyle and respect for history, but little care for genre borders. His father was a true hard rocker, maxing out truck speakers to ZZ Top and Black Sabbath. His mother loved the gentle country genius of Don Williams. And his sister filled their house with the melodic hip hop of stars like Nelly. All those influences combine within Redferrin to create a unique musical language that harnesses a thrill-seeking spirit and relentless drive for a new kind of race.
