Following a massive Nashville crowd of 10,000 fans singing every single word to Dan + Shay’s (Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney) enormous hit song “Tequila” on Tuesday night, the skyrocketing country stars learned today that their multi-week #1 is also officially the most-streamed country song released in 2018. The news arrived this morning as a surprise birthday gift for Smyers who co-wrote the song with Nicolle Galyon and Jordan Reynolds.
Fan reaction alone supports the duo’s most recent achievement: 1 billion on-demand career streams with the multi-week #1 “Tequila” contributing over 200 million on-demand streams alone. Recently certified Platinum by the RIAA, the global smash is still the No. 1 most-played recurrent on country radio more than a month following its peak. The single has received national TV exposure on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ellen, the CMA Fest concert special, the 53rd Annual ACM Awards, the 2018 CMT Music Awards and the Citi Summer Concert Series on TODAY.
Dan + Shay’s follow-up single “Speechless” has already become an undeniable hit, racking up substantial streaming and sales numbers before even impacting country radio. Now boasting more than 42 million on-demand streams, the romantic tune was most-added at country radio last week with 48 first week stations and has already sold more than 320,000 track equivalents. When compared to the current Mediabase Top 50, the single ranks No. 7 in streams and No. 11 in track equivalent sales. Its music video, which comprises footage from each of their real-life weddings, has earned 15 million views on YouTube. The award-winning have also released vocal-only versions of both “Tequila” and “Speechless” (listen HERE), which Billboard applauded for “powerful harmonies [that] soar through… with effortless emotion.”
Fans can catch more Dan + Shay on Good Morning America with Luke Bryan and Sugarland on August 28, where they will announce the nominees for the 52nd Annual CMA Awards. The duo is currently sharing their music out on the road with Rascal Flatts for their “Back To Us” Tour through the summer and will join Chris Young for the fall leg of his “Losing Sleep” Tour in October. They’ll take their collection of No. 1 hits and brand new music across the globe with a UK tour kicking off January 17, 2019.
