Global Smash Single “Tequila” Leads Album with Record Streams
Duo Takes TODAY Summer Concert Series on Monday, June 25
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (June 22, 2018) – Chart-topping, Platinum-selling and hit-making duo Dan + Shay (Dan Smyers + Shay Mooney) reach their newest milestone today, five years into their career, with the release of their highly anticipated self-titled album (AVAILABLE NOW). Immediately upon release the record skyrocketed to No. 1 on the iTunes Top Country Albums and No. 3 All-Genre. Co-produced by Smyers alongside the award-winning Scott Hendricks, the record features 11 brand new tracks with credits shared throughout by the duo and some of Nashville’s most prolific songwriters.
“This is a self-titled record because it is the truest representation of who we are and where we are going,” said Smyers. “We poured our hearts and souls into every note, and to see such an overwhelmingly positive response from the fans is incredible.”
Fans enjoyed a first taste of the album in January with the release of its lead single, “Tequila.” In just a few months, those fans have turned the “nostalgic tale of heartbreak and regret” (Rolling Stone) into a viral streaming sensation. Currently boasting upwards of 130 million streams as the fifth most-streamed country song of 2018, “Tequila” is out-streaming every song currently on the country airplay charts and nearly half of the all-genre Top 50. Named to Shazam’s “Songs of Summer” list, the smash hit sits in the Top 3 at country radio and continues to climb. Dan + Shay performed “Tequila” at the 2018 CMT Awards, where they took home the trophy for “Duo Video of the Year.” They introduced the song earlier in the year on Ellen, offered an intimate performance at the 53rd ACM Awards in April and will now open it up to New York City for the TODAY Summer Concert Series this Monday, June 25.
While the single continues its charge, fans have embraced each of the four additional advance tracks available pre-launch: “All To Myself,” “Speechless,” “Alone Together” and “Keeping Score.” With pop superstar Demi Lovato among its advocates, “Speechless” alone has pulled in more than 15 million streams and 7 million views of its romantic music video. Yesterday afternoon the duo joined GRAMMY-winning recording artist Kelly Clarkson for a special Facebook Live event (WATCH HERE) in which they discussed their collaboration on “Keeping Score,” a mid-tempo ballad that Spotify featured upon last week’s release on their New Music Friday playlists in three different countries as well as Everyday Favorites, All About Country, Fresh & Chill and Daily Lift. Today they lead Spotify’s Hot Country playlist, which includes a special live performance of “Tequila” (WATCH HERE), as this week’s cover story artist.
Dan + Shay previewed the record just hours before its official launch last night in New York with a special iHeartRadio / iHeartCountry album release event and will continue the celebration tonight with a YouTube Live from YouTube Space NYC in Chelsea, where they will play and talk about a handful of their new songs (WATCH HERE). Committed to bringing their music to as many fans as possible, the duo is out on the road with Rascal Flatts for their “Back To Us” Tour through the summer and will join Chris Young for the fall leg of his “Losing Sleep” Tour in October. Earlier this week they announced a six-date UK tour kicking off January 17, 2019. The pair will bring new tunes and old favorites from their past two albums to fans across the globe, including their Platinum-certified debut single “19 You + Me,” their first Gold-certified No. 1 hit “Nothin’ Like You,” the Platinum-certified flagship song from 2016’s Obsessed, “From the Ground Up,” and their most recent hit, the Gold-certified “How Not To.”
