Rising Star Set To Join Brooks & Dunn for CMT Crossroads
Celebrates First Sold-Out Show at NYC’s Irving Plaza
This week, CoJo Music/Warner Music Nashville recording artist Cody Johnson broke into the Top 10 at U.S. Country Radio with his poignant ballad “On My Way To You.” The milestone adds to a staggering list of recent career-firsts including debut performances at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and NYC’s Irving Plaza which both sold out, a Gillette Stadium date with the legendary George Strait and his first-ever CMA Fest performance as an Ascend Amphitheater headliner on June 8. Johnson began this streak of firsts when he signed an unprecedented co-venture with Warner Music Nashville less than a year ago before his much anticipated album AIN’T NOTHIN’ TO IT arrived at No. 1 on both the Billboard Country Albums chart and iTunes Country Albums Chart.
Yet Johnson takes all these firsts in stride with his signature brand of cowboy confidence. Possessing a strong sense self, purpose and perhaps a sense that he is simply meeting his destiny, Johnson’s feet are firmly on the ground. “Thank you to the fans because you’re the reason we get to do what we love for a living,” he said. “My hat’s off to my team at Warner Music Nashville and country radio. Thank you for embracing my brand of country music. It’s a hell of a ride we’re on together, and I’m grateful.”
On June 4, Johnson will record CMT Crossroads: Brooks & Dunn And Friends in downtown Nashville. A longtime fan of the history making duo, he often performs their songs during his live shows, which have sold out in over 30 states (many in cities he has never stepped foot in). In fact, Johnson made it a point to pay respect to the duo by singing “Red Dirt Road” during his first ever performance at the historic Ryman Auditorium last month. Fans can catch his bombastic live shows throughout the summer (full list of tour dates here: www.codyjohnsonmusic.com).
